A large domestic garden on a grand scale, lying within a traditional estate by the River Tweed and surrounded by magnificent hills.

Dawyck Botanic Gardens

Dawyck Botanic Garden is one of four gardens that comprise the National Botanic Gardens of Scotland and is a regional garden of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh whose mission is to explore and explain the world of plants.
During March and April the first of the Rhododendrons begin to flower reaching their peak during late May early June. The fabled Blue Himalayan Poppy or Meconopsis are at their peak during late May into early June and from then until late summer the Burnside herbaceous plantings are at their best.

Abbotsford
The home of Sir Walter Scott, situated on the banks of the River Tweed, the house contains and impressive collection of historic relics, weapons and armour and a library containing over 9000 rare volumes.
Visitors can see Sir Walter’s study, library, Drawing Room, Entrance Hall, Armouries, Dining Room and private Chapel. You can relax in Quill Tea Room or Walled Garden and enjoy lovely walks around the grounds.
Floors Castle
Floors Castle is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland, home to the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe and their family. There is so much to see in the beautiful castle including state rooms, paintings and tapestries.
There is also a restaurant, shop, numerous walks, café, walled garden and garden centre, children's play area, adventure playground and picnic area.
Thirlestane Castle
One of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland, set in the Border hills at Lauder. Originally built as a fort in the 13th century, it is home to the Maitland family.
See the Panelled Room and the Library with defensive walls up to 13" thick. The Duke’s Suite features the most excellent example of 17th century plasterwork. The Family Nurseries have a unique collection of historic toys, children can enjoy playing with the replicas and dip into the dressing up chest.
