Fabulous Family Friendly Breaks

It’s the muddy feet, ear to ear grins and new found sense of adventure that counts.

When it comes to keeping kids happy – we have just the ticket! Banish all thoughts of a topsy-turvy holiday and prepare for adventures of hurtling through the woods on a mountain bike, steadfast for Glentress to tackle the winding trails; strolling through the grounds to get a lay of the land before diving into underwater worlds and last, but most certainly not least, declaring yourself ‘champion of all champions’ of archery.

So, take a look below and see what you might get up to if you join us for a two night stay with kids in tow…Shall we begin?

Day One

The adventure begins

It all starts when you draw up at Peebles Hydro, hop out the car and take a deep breath in. Ahh – fresh air. Moment over, the next task is to get the luggage, kids (and maybe even the dog) inside but once that’s done – you’re laughing!

A family-sized family room!

Comfortable beds, room to roam and all the extras that help you feel at home! Mess up the beds, rip open the biscuits and starting naming everything you fancy from our entertainment programme. NO squabbling now…there’s something for everyone!

Starting with a splash

It’s inevitable really…you were always going to end up here as soon as the first opportunity presented itself. Oodles of floats, tonnes of pool toys and lots and lots of splashing! kids hour runs from 3-5pm daily, making it the perfect opportunity for your first ‘dip’ of the holiday!

A spot of after dinner entertainment

Tonight you settle for a relaxed dinner in our ‘Not the Cocktail Bar’ (complete with proper comfort food) after that, the entertainment team with have you scratching your heads bewildered and jumping up and down with excitement!

Day two

The most important meal of the day

What is it about hotel breakfasts? And why are they so much better than breakfast at home? We’ll tell you…
It might well be the humongous choice; a full Scottish or a plate of pastries, eggs fried or scrambled, cereal or fruit? It might be that or the fact you can have as much as you can possibly manage. Challenge accepted! One thing for sure, you’re pleased you don’t have to do the washing up.

A long walk – with bloomin’ great views

We’re not biased (actually, we are…but you will be too once Peebles becomes your new favorite place to visit!) Our neck of the woods is particularly pretty so do be sure to get outside during your stay. Our grounds are full things to look out for including our ‘Hive-dro’ or ‘Hen-dro’. Pull on your wellies and walk off that hearty breakfast or, if the weather really is foul, you could always go for a jaunt in the car!

A bit of healthy competition

Competitive families consider this your warning! A real test of skill and patience, our Archery sessions will have you biting your nails whilst the others draw their arrows and take their shot. Who will be first to hit the bullseye?

Last one to The Peel cafe is a rotten egg!

Mountain bikes weren’t around when we opened back in 1878. (In fact, the penny farthing had barely been invented!) Back then it was all pleasant strolls followed by a dainty afternoon tea. Now, only a ten-minute cycle from Glentress forest we’re all about bracing Downhill Mountain biking! Don’t fancy being quite that fast or furious? Opt for a gentle cycle along to our Peel cafe instead where Val and her team will be serving up a whole host of homemade lunches and goodies. Marvelous.

Games, games and more games!

And if the kids still aren’t worn out…head to The Ballroom for some fast-paced and lively games, organised by our ‘head of fun!’ Adults – this is your chance to slope off to the lounge and enjoy an hour of peace and quiet. Coffee and cake or a large glass of wine? It’s been a busy day – you’ve earned it!

Everyone round one table

At this stage in the day, you may not be sure which part is better – the ‘sitting down’ or ‘the dinner.’ We can assure you, it’s the latter! The menu is packed full of familiar, filling favourites (with the option of smaller portions for the littlies!) So sit back, relax and be sure to leave enough room for dessert…there’s sticky toffee pudding!

Movie night or groovy night!

It all depends what you’re feeling up to after a truly busy day. For an all singing, all dancing evening check out the entertainment programme in search of a ceilidh band in the ballroom or a singer in the bar. If the kids are flagging, you might find one of our movie nights in the Recency is exactly what they need to send them off to sleep! (In a good way…)

Day three

Big plans to do nothing

This morning, after plenty of dancing the night before, you opt for breakfast a little later than usual. But not to worry – we won’t be short of supplies!

A wander into town

After breakfast, head into Peebles for a look around the shops – clothes, accessories, gifts, gins and chocolate await! Be sure to pop into the sweetie shop for a pick ‘n’ mix or a few of the old favourites. The kids are going to LOVE you!

Skip lunch in favour of Afternoon Tea

Engrossed in your shopping trip (and still full from breakfast) you missed lunch. Instead, you plonk yourselves down in the sun lounge, by the window of course, and order an Afternoon tea. There’s even a kids version too so there’s no need to fight over cakes of worry about the fussy eaters!

Dinner for TWO!

That’s right – you heard us! With the kids fed nice and early before heading off to The Kids Club or the games room, the two of you are left to tackle a full 3-courser in the restaurant and sample some of the wares at our infamous Gin Palace in the lounge. Cheers to that!

Day four

A fond farewell

An 11am check-out leaves plenty of time for a lazy breakfast and one last scan of the room for (nearly) forgotten belongings. Well caught mum – that toy would have been sorely missed! The kids head for one last scramble around the playpark whilst the car is packed. Long journey? Stock-up the car in the picnic shop before you leave.

Picnic for the car

If you’re pondering over whether or not to ‘fill your pockets’ before the journey home, the answer is most definitely yes. No sooner will you have left the building before exclamations of ‘I’m hungryyyyy’ start coming from the back seats! Head to the Picnic Shop and stock up on a few portable goodies!
