Hard Work Pays Off

Don’t you just love the feeling of hard work paying off? We do.

Take Jason, our green fingered gardener extraordinaire, he’s been a very busy bee over the last 12 months – he’s done all the usual ground-keeping and maintenance of our gardens but he’s also built numerous planting beds using old railway sleepers, tyres and wooden palettes, he’s completely overhauled our greenhouses, he’s built a home for our chickens (Peebles Hendro) and he’s even overseen the installation of a home for our bees (Peebles Hivedro).

In short, Jason has built himself a very impressive shedquarters! But where’s the pay off we hear you ask? Well…

Our grounds are looking better than ever…

The planting beds are full of goodness plus the kids love our minion tyre beds…

The greenhouses are bursting with life – herbs, vegetables and literal fruits of Jason’s labour! Our chickens laid their 200th egg last week and our bees our producing pound after pound of delicious honey…

The best part of this is that we get to share Jason’s efforts with you – the fruit and veg that Jason’s been growing will soon end up on your plate in our restaurant and the honey from the bees you’ll find atop your toast at breakfast! Plus, we invite the kids down to shedquarters to meet the chickens and get their hands dirty helping Jason.

Hard work has payed off elsewhere too – in the kitchens one of our chefs, Robbie, has been named as Scotland’s Team Manager for the 2016 Culinary Olympics and another, Chris, was invited to enter a recipe into the Great British Cookbook! And last but by no means least our Painting and Decorating apprentice, Luke, has been nominated as Best First Year Student in his faculty at the Borders College – hard work is paying off across the board here at the Hydro
