Karol Makula Photography
Candid, unobtrusive and relaxed. Just a few words to describe Karol Makula Photography
Meet the talent behind the camera.
What made you become a wedding photographer?
I used to work in very exclusive wedding venue and that’s where it all started – seeing the love between couples and being able to be a part of their big day lit a spark in me. But photography has and always will be my passion. So, that’s where you’ll find me, behind the camera, capturing the love.
Is there anything you think you’ve learnt so far from being on the job?
Patience, building a relationship with the couples and most importantly, time management.
If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing instead?
Not a clue – being a wedding photographer is the best job ever!
What is the one thing you love most about wedding photography?
Every wedding is different, I have been lucky enough to play a part in so many couples’ unique story.
How would you describe your photography style?
A few words to describe my style would be candid, unobtrusive and relaxed. I like to get the best out of my couples on their big day and I feel this is the best way to do that.
Is it okay if other people take photos while you’re taking photos?
I am a fan of unplugged weddings. It means that there are no spoilers of the dress, flowers or any other special aspects of the day. It also means that everyone can really focus on what’s happening in front of them instead of through a screen – leave the looking through a lens to me!
Do couples need to have ideas of where they want their photos or do they just turn up?
I take care of everything, they just enjoy their special day... but I like to listen to my couples and find out what they want from their wedding day. Which is why I always encourage couples to come and meet me and have an initial engagement session, so we can get to know each other. We can discuss the shots they really want, and how I can help them get the most out of the venue, like using the light and the setting for the best possible pictures.
How about Peebles Hydro? Any photography hot-spots?
It’s always down to the light but I like the wee bridge and the wooden house in the gardens – they’re quirky and give a personality to Peebles Hydro.
Do you have a favourite, must-capture moment for every wedding?
That’s a hard one, as there’s lots of different parts to the day I love. If I had to choose a couple, I would say father seeing daughter for the first time, the reaction of the groom when seeing the bride and of course, the first kiss.
Any tips to give to future couples on choosing a photographer for their wedding?
Make sure that you choose a photographer with a style that you both love.
What piece of advice would you give brides and grooms to ensure that they get wedding photos they love forever?
Make sure that you hire a professional photographer – they are there to capture your day and all the moments that you might miss. Also, don’t let your family members take over the planning of your wedding – it’s YOUR big day, make sure that your day reflects what you want.
