When we opened our doors back in 1878, we did so as “Peebles Hydropathic Institute” with all manner of weird and wonderful water cures. You’ll be pleased to hear things have changed. We waved a fond farewell to our mustard poultices and high pressure jets, and welcomed rather more relaxing treatments.
With everything from aromatherapy full body massages through to moisture quenching facials and finishing touches, our spa team will select the right product and massage technique for you. How do they do that? By simply asking a few questions and offering honest, straightforward advice. Just lovely!
Mums-to-be are in for some blissful relaxation too with our radiant massage or new mum indulgent treat.

- Can I book when I arrive?
We’d highly recommend booking in advance to avoid any disappointment as we tend to fill up around 3 weeks in advance. However, if you’re lucky and we have availability left then you are able to book treatments when you’re here with us.
- Can I book for a group?
Yes but we do have limited space so we can’t guarantee you will all be able to fit into the same time slot. If you’re planning a group getaway then you should check out our Events section.
- What should I wear if getting a full body massage?
We want you to feel as relaxed as possible so wear what you feel comfortable in however to receive the full benefits of the treatments we would recommend that you leave the areas that you want worked on unclothed (e.g. back, shoulders, legs, etc).
We’ll leave you alone in your treatment room to change down to your level of comfort and our therapists ensure you’re professionally covered throughout your treatment, only exposing the area they’re working on.
- How long does a session last?
Your treatment time is detailed in the brochure and is generally 25, 50 or 80 minutes. This includes a consultation before and aftercare after your treatment.
We recommend arriving 5 minutes before your treatment to fill out any paperwork. Please understand that a late arrival may mean that the treatment time is reduced or unable to be honoured and our cancellation policy will still apply.
- Are the spa and the pool connected?
Unfortunately not. Our spa is located downstairs, towards the front of the building, and is in no way connected to our leisure facilities. Sorry about that.
- Can anyone get a treatment? Even people who aren't staying at the Hydro?
Our spa treatments are available to anyone over the age of 18, whether they’re staying with us here at the Hydro or not. For those under 18, we do offer manicures and pedicures but we’re not able to offer any massages.
- I have a medical condition, can I still have a treatment?
Some of the treatments we offer aren’t suitable for all our guests. We request that you draw our attention to any medical conditions, such as allergies, heart conditions, cancer, epilepsy or recent operations, during the consultation with your therapist prior to your treatment. Similarly, we’ll need to know about your pregnancy so that we can safely pamper you and your baby.
